Sturgeon's Law
It was at a Science Fiction convention in 1951 that the renownved auther Ted Sturgeon was confronted with what I suppose was the 50s equivalent of an "anorak" After sitting through a Q&A session with a pile of books religiously bookmarked at selected passages this individual eventually got up and began to read passages at tedious length from the selected works.
In due course, and to everyone's relief, he concluded with the challenge "Mr Sturgeon, 90% of this material is crap!"
"Sir" responded Ted, "ninety percent of everything is crap"
This is now widely remembered as Sturgeon's law
